Permanent makeup consent

Permanent makeup (microblading, powder brows, eyeliner, lip blush) places pigment into the upper layer of the skin with fine needles. This breaks the skin and, depending on your skin type, lasts one to three years.

Possible reactions: swelling, redness, scabbing, the color first looking darker and then lighter, and uneven pigment retention. Less common: infection, allergic reactions to pigments, scarring and cold sore outbreaks after lip procedures. The final result is only visible after full healing; a touch-up after four to eight weeks is part of the process.

We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with bleeding disorders or blood thinners, diabetes with poor wound healing, a tendency to keloid scars, autoimmune or skin conditions in the treatment area, or recent tanning or facial peels.

Removal: pigment can only be removed with effort and not always completely. Please consider this before your treatment.

Aftercare: for 7 to 14 days no exercise, sauna, swimming or tanning beds; do not scratch or pick scabs, care for the area as instructed and protect it from the sun.

Please contact us if anything feels unusual after your treatment — strong pain, lasting redness, swelling or signs of infection. The sooner we know, the easier it is to help.

We cannot guarantee a specific result: skin, hair and healing differ from person to person. We work to the best of our professional knowledge and have explained the procedure, risks and alternatives to you. You had the opportunity to ask questions, and your questions were answered.

Questions to add to your intake form

Have you had permanent makeup before — where, when and with which pigment?

Do you get cold sores (for lip procedures)?

Do you have diabetes, a bleeding disorder or a tendency to keloid scars?

Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?

Are you taking blood thinners, retinoids or isotretinoin?

Have you had neurotoxin injections or fillers in the area in the past weeks?

Healing is part of the consent

Clients are often surprised that brows look too dark for the first days and then too light. A good consent explains that: swelling, scabbing, darkening and fading are part of healing, and the final result only shows after the touch-up.

Removal is the other surprise. Pigment can be lightened or removed only with effort, and not always completely. Saying that before the session is fair to the client — and part of informed consent.

Who regulates permanent makeup

Permanent makeup is often regulated like tattooing, by the state or county health department rather than the cosmetology board. Many places also set a minimum age. Check your local rules — they can require specific wording or record keeping.

Template, not legal advice. Consent requirements differ by state and by service — check your state board’s rules and have the wording reviewed before you use it.

Yes. The template says a touch-up after four to eight weeks is part of the process, so the client knows the first session is not the final result.

No, not yet. Luvira uses this wording as a fixed template and stores the version with each signature. Copy it here if you need to adapt it.

Yes. In Luvira, treatment photos stay private in the client record, and any public use needs a separate photo consent.
